First Look

Wildlife

Paul Dano’s directorial debut is a scorching coming-of-age drama of a family coming apart in a Montana town threatened by wild fires. It stars Carey Mulligan and Carey Mulligan as the mismatched parents, with a compelling debut from Ed Oxenbould, a son wise beyond his years.

Wildlife screens at the BFI LFF on 13, 14 and 15 October.

Crystal Swan

Darya Zhuk’s Crystal Swan may be the first feature you’ll see from Belarus, a country that freed itself from the Soviet Union yet still finds itself no better off. Alina Nasibullina is charismatic as Velya, the rebel whose single-minded pursuit of a US visa takes her from the capital and embroils her with a chaotic provincial family.

Crystal Swan screens at the BFI LFF on 14 and 16 October.
