CAUTION: Here be spoilers

Hopefully Odyssey is a satire. It’s put together like a cut and shut, when two halves of different, crash-damaged cars are welded together to create a whole car. In the case of Odyssey (why is it called that, by the way?), it’s a film of two halves, joined together by a surrealistic dive into London’s after-hours specialist, private club scene with nightmarish skewed footage and red filters, contrasting with the overwhelming steely blues and greys throughout.

The too-long first half features an entrepreneurial, not very successful, coke-fuelled estate agent Natasha Flynn (Polly Maberly, various TV series), exploiting London’s home shortage with gullible renters and teaching the tricks of the trade to quick-to-learn trainee Dylan (Jasmine Blackborow, feature debut). Everything changes when a rival estate agent is kidnapped and Natasha is forced to hide him at one of her unrentable properties. She then searches for The Viking (Mikael Persbrandt, Swedish films and TV) to help her out. Why and who he is, is explained later in the film. After they meet, the second half is a violent bloodbath, led by The Viking (a professional killer, it turns out) and Natasha, as they fight to free the trussed-up hostage held by his kidnappers.

Nothing and nobody is explained until the video clip after the end credits. The director is Gerard Johnson (Hyena, Muscle). Music is by the The.

Odyssey screened at SXSW, EIFF and is released on 7 November 2025 in the UK.
